Queanbeyan West is bounded by Canberra Avenue (the Kings Highway) in the north, Ross Road and Tharwa Road in the east, Southbar Road, Lanyon Drive, Hoover Road and the suburb of Jerrabomberra in the south, and the tourist railway line in the west. Queanbeyan West is named for the area west of Queanbeyan, which is named from an Aboriginal word meaning "clear waters".
