Braidwood is bounded by the localities of Larbert and Durran Durra in the north, the localities of Mongarlowe and Northangera in the east, the locality of Reidsdale, Araluen Road, the locality of Jembaicumbene and Jembaicumbeine Creek in the south, and the Shoalhaven River in the west. Braidwood is named after Dr Thomas Braidwood Wilson, an early land holder in the area.
