About the forecast areas

The 2021 population forecast for Dandenong Foothills Policy Area is 23,601, and is forecast to grow to 24,823 by 2041.

The Dandenong Foothills Policy Area is defined within the City of Knox Planning Scheme and, for the purposes of producing a population forecast, includes the treed slopes and rural areas of Lysterfield Valley and parts of the suburbs of Boronia (excluding the Boronia Activity Centre), Ferntree Gully (excluding the Ferntree Gully Village Neighbourhood Activity Centre) and Lysterfield. Thos part of The Basin and Upper Ferntree Gully that fall within the scheme are excluded because they are areas with too low a population to allow a forecast for both the suburbs and those parts of the suburbs falling within the policy area.
