The 2020 population forecast for the City of Onkaparinga is 176,990, and is forecast to grow to 212,172 by 2036.
The City of Onkaparinga is located on Adelaide's southern fringe, between 25 and 40 kilometres from the Adelaide CBD. The City of Onkaparinga is bounded by the Cities of Marion and Mitcham in the north, the Adelaide Hills Council area and the District Council of Mount Barker area in the east, the Alexandrina Council area and the District Council of Yankalilla area in the south and Gulf St Vincent in the west.
The City of Onkaparinga has formalised a place-based approach to strategic planning by defining a series of seven districts across the Onkaparinga region. In determining district boundaries demography, activity patterns and centres, urban form and land use, and natural geographic boundaries were considered. The districts are comprised of groupings of small areas, as used throughout this site. Most of the maps and forecast data can be viewed at the district level as well as per small area and city wide, as has previously been the case.
