Population and age structure

Between 2016 and 2026, the age structure forecasts for Hilltops Council area indicate a 2.4% decrease in population under working age, a 16.7% increase in population of retirement age, and a 3.6% decrease in population of working age.

Key findings

In 2016, the dominant age structure for persons in Hilltops Council area was ages Parents and homebuilders (35 to 49), which accounted for 17.2% of the total persons.

The largest increase in persons between 2016 and 2026 is forecast to be in ages Seniors (70 to 84), which is expected to increase by 772 and account for 15.7% of the total persons.

The largest 5 year age group in 2026 is Parents and homebuilders (35 to 49) years, with a total of 3,135 persons.
