What are our assumptions?
Other assumptions
Fertility rates: The forecast number of births in the Southern Grampians Shire is a reflection on the fertility rates assumed for small areas. The overall rate is expected to rise in the short term from 2.03 in 2001 to 2.29 by 2006 before gradually decreasing to 2.26 by 2021, although there is expected to be lower rates of births in younger ages and marginally higher rates in older ages.
Death rates: The forecast number of deaths in Southern Grampians Shire is a reflection on the death rates assumed for small areas. These rates are based on historical estimates for the Shire, which have been extrapolated into the future, assuming an increase in expectation of life in all age groups (except 85+). Although women are still forecast to outlive men, the increase in the expectation of life over time for men is expected to be higher compared to women.
Non-private dwellings: 591 people were estimated to be living in non-private dwellings in Southern Grampians Shire in 2001. Most non-private dwellings in the LGA are related to aged care (hostels and nursing homes) and student boarding accommodation. It is assumed there will be an increase to aged care services in the LGA with the number of persons in non-private dwellings increasing to 612 in 2021.
